  2. Background Information This image was created by the Altarriba Foundation: Friends of the Animals in 2007 as a campaign against animal abandonment.

  3. Who is the audience of this image? The audience is anyone who is a pet owner and is against animal abandonment.

  4. What is the ethical appeal? The Altarriba Foundation logo in the bottom left corner makes the image credible and represents the ethical appeal.

  5. What is the logical appeal? It is illogical that a dog would have batteries, but they help prove the point of the foundation: animals aren’t like toys that need batteries and shouldn’t be abandoned like any old toy.

  6. What is the emotional appeal? The dog looks sad and abandoned which draws sympathy from the audience.

  7. How does the effect change without the words? When the words are removed, the purpose is harder to understand. You wouldn’t understand why the dog had batteries without the words to explain it.

  8. What is the focal point? The focal point of the image is the battery holder that is in the dog. The battery holder represents the dog being a toy, the dog is comparable to the abandoned toys in the background.

  9. How do the colors affect the image? The colors are dark and neutral which adds a negative connotation to animal abandonment.
