  1. 2005 ACPESTANDARDS & MANUALS:WHAT’S NEW? Important Changes

  2. Similar Format All Manuals • Preface • Part One-Introduction: ACPE mission, and purpose, authority, function of the commission/committee • Part Two-Body of manual (processes, etc.) • Part Three-Glossary • Part Four-Appendices • Other-bolding glossary terms throughout text

  3. Standards • Renumbered sections for simplicity (100, 101 vs. 110, 111) • Moved appendices 100-300 (Guidelines for Student Records, Admissions Interviews, Evaluations of Students’ CPE Experience) to Accreditation Manual where they are most relevant

  4. Standard 100: 1. Accountability Statement • Maintenance of high standards of ethical conduct is a responsibility shared by all ACPE members and students. • ACPE members agree to adhere to a standard of conduct consistent with the code of ethics established in ACPE standards. Members are required to sign the AccountabilityFor Ethical Conduct Policy Report Form (Appendix 1) and to promptly provide notice to the ACPE Executive Director of any complaint of unethical conduct made against them in a civil, criminal, ecclesiastical, employment or another professionalorganization's forum.

  5. Standard 100: 2. “Bridge” from one commission process to another ACPE may invoke an ethics, accreditation or certification review process when a member’s conduct, inside or outside their professional work: • involves an alleged abuse of power or authority, • involves an alleged felony, or • is the subject of civil action or discipline in another forum when any of these impugn the ability of a member to function effectively and credibly as a CPE supervisor, chaplain, or spiritual care provider.

  6. “Bridge” Language: e.g., see Certification Manual, II. 1. H • H. If issues pertinent to accreditation or professional ethics arise during a certification review, the review committee chair will document the issue(s) and convey the information to the center and the regional certification chair. The regional certification chair conveys the information to the Commission chair who then forwards the information to the appropriate commission.

  7. How many programs do we have?? 2005 Standards specifies that ACPE distinguishes 2 types of CPE programming: CPE (Level I & Level II) and Supervisory CPE • Changed from 2002, Standard 250: “Three types of CPE programs are distinguished in ACPE Standards: Level I CPE, Level II CPE and Supervisory CPE.”

ACPE accredits two types of clinicalpastoral education programs: CPE (Level I/Level II)and Supervisory CPE. ACPE accredited programs provide a progressive learning experience through a two level curriculum.

  9. How do we measure progress?Level II = “satisfactorily addressed”Supervisory = “Completion” • Level I curriculum outcomes must be satisfactorily addressed prior to admission to Level II. (i.e., progressing within the program of CPE) • Completion of CPE (Level I/Level II) curriculum outcomes is prerequisite for admission to Supervisory CPE. (i.e., admitted into a new program.)
