Required to Take Attendance • A school is considered to be “required to take attendance” if: • Outside agency requires the school to take attendance • School requires its instructors to take attendance • School or outside agency has a requirement that can only be met by taking attendance or comparable process §668.22(b)(3)(i)
Required to Take Attendance If a school requires attendance to be taken only for some students, it must use its attendance records to determine a withdrawal date for those students §668.22(b)(3)(ii)
Required to Take Attendance • If a school requires attendance to be taken only for a limited period, it must use its attendance records to determine a withdrawal date during the period. • If a student withdraws after that period, the school determines a withdrawal date based on rules for schools not required to take attendance. §668.22(b)(3)(iii)
Withdrawal Date • If a school is required to take attendance or requires that attendance be taken only for a single day, it is not considered to be “required to take attendance.” • For classes meeting on alternate days, attendance may be taken once per class day without the school being considered to be “required to take attendance.” §668.22(b)(3)(iv)
Attendance at an Academically-Related Activity • Attendance at an academically-related activity no longer includes: • Counseling, or • Academic advisement §§668.22(c)(3) and (l)(7)(i)
