  1. Physical chemistry Prelab: 3 Determination of types of compounds Determination of type of compounds.

  2. Purpose • To examine the difference between ionic and covalent compounds and understand how their properties give rise to this categorization. Determination of type of compounds.

  3. A strong electrolyte is a solute that completely, or almost completely, ionizes or dissociates in a solution. These ions are good conductors of electric current in the solution.

  4. Introduction Some properties such as solubility , conductivity andmelting point can be used to know the type of compounds. Determination of type of compounds.

  5. Procedure: • You are provided with three compounds (NaCl, Ethanol, Naphthalene) . • Run the following tests to decide if each compound is polar covalent, non polar covalent or ionic. (2) Conductivity (1) Solubility • Try the solubility of each provided substance • in • Prepare water solution of • each compound • Measure the conductivity of each water solution by conductometer water Chloroform • Record your observation. • Record the conductivity of each solution. Determination of type of compounds.

  6. Thank you Determination of type of compounds.
