  2. Financial Opportunities at Texas A&M Texas A&M disburses $534 million in financial aid annually. • 19% in Scholarships • 15% in Grants • 35% in Loans • 20% in Student Employment • 11% in Tuition Waivers 71% of the student body are receiving financial aid!

  4. Applying for Financial Aid • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) • Information provided is used to calculate the Expected Family Contribution • Must be completed annually • www.fafsa.ed.gov • Texas A&M School Code 003632

Extenuating Circumstances • Adjusting the Expected Family Contribution • Loss of employment or reduction of income • Death or illness • Medical or dental expenses not covered by insurance • Adjusting Cost of Attendance • Based on averages, may adjust to actual costs with documentation • Other circumstances that result in a change in financial status Contact our office for more information.

  7. What might I receive? • Graduate Texas Public Education Grant • Texas Aggie Graduate Grant (TAGG). Apply for TAGG via financialaid.tamu.edu under “Forms” • Direct Stafford Loans • Unsubsidized annual maximum of $20,500 • Direct Graduate PLUS Loan

  8. Release of Funds • Financial aid can apply to the billing statement no sooner than 10 days before the first class day each semester, dependent upon your enrollment/registration. Fall 2012 August 18 Spring 2013 January 5 30

  9. Financial Aid Delays • Incomplete file • Loan Entrance Counseling not complete • Loan Master Promissory Note not complete • Not enrolled in enough hours at Texas A&M Half-time = 5 hours Full-time = 9 hours • Scholarship funds not received from donor

Short-term Loans Room and board Books and supplies Optional fees Computers Study abroad Aggie Rings Co-Op • Do not need a FAFSA to apply • 8% simple interest • 1-12 month repayment period • $1000 - $1500 maximum • Emergency Tuition and Fees loan also available • 5% simple interest • 90 days repayment (fall/spring) • Apply online at financialaid.tamu.edu

Maintaining Eligibility • Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) • Policy and appeal process at financialaid.tamu.edu • General Requirements: • Must successfully complete 75% of all courses attempted at A&M • Cumulative GPR of 3.0 • Cannot exceed 150% of minimum hours required for admitted degree level

  12. Looking Ahead Summer 2013 • You can receive aid only for hours enrolled at Texas A&M • Aid is awarded based on enrollment 2013-2014 • Apply for scholarships • Renew your FAFSA • Check your status online and fulfill all requirements
