Achievements of the First Phase • Large-scale and high-performance grid environment • Build up a grid system covering more than 20 key universities all over the country • Gather computing capabilities up to 16TF and storage capacities to 180TB • Support IPv6 network environment depending on CERNET2

  4. Achievements of the First Phase • ChinaGrid Support Platform (CGSP) • The grid middleware for ChinaGrid • Follow the WS-Resource Framework (WSRF) and Open Grid Service Architecture (OGSA) • Developed by the joint working group from HUST, THU, PKU, BUAA, SJTU, and other universities in ChinaGrid • Installed in all the ChinaGrid universities

  5. Bioinformatics Grid Provide more than 120 kinds of software tools and 35 types of related database services. Since Jan.1, 2006,average daily hits get up to 37750 times and highest hit reaches 218000 times per day.

  6. Image Processing Grid Provide 35 kinds of image processing grid services, more than 3000 case data, about 100,000 medical pictures, about 10,000 diagnose materials and implement the information integration of five medical organizations including three hospitals

  7. CFD Grid Integrate more than 30 kinds of commercial/teaching software, provide 40 kinds of CFD grid services, and provide grid computing environment supporting for 2 items of the Second Prize of Progress in National Science and Technology.

  8. Massive Information Processing Grid Carry out the integration of digital museum resources of 12 universities, provide more than 100,000 digital specimens in 4 species; Support the data processing for ASγ experiment of Yangbajing of Tibet and the AMS experiment in the space

  9. Course On-line Grid Provide free VoD services about education based on 22 servers of ChinaGrid. The video resources include more than 300 college courses from 20 key universities and many displines. The total length is more than 8000 hours and the average daily hits amount to 5,000.

General Plan of ChinaGrid Phase 2 • Expand the scale of ChinaGrid • Build high-performance grid centers and enlarge number of campus grids • Develop the key technologies of ChinaGrid • Enforce the development of the second phase of CGSP • Exploit the typical applications of ChinaGrid • Applications should have extensive requirement, promote academic discipline development, and have great prospective • Build management organizations of ChnaGrid • Guarantee ChinaGrid to run steadily and high efficiently by a set of management organizations

Mission 1:Construction of Grid Resource • Build 6 high performance grid centers of ChinaGrid • Form core nodes of grid environment • Equip computing capability with 100TF and storage capacity with 1PB • Incubate pilot grid applications • Grid resources are managed with full authority by ChinaGrid team and are open to the society freely • Explore the market mechanism of grid resources • Take on the duty of the regional grid center • Build 40 campus grid systems • Expand the campus grid systems from 20 to 40 • Build high performance computing environment by each participating universities

Mission 2:Research and Development of CGSP • Main content of the second phase of CGSP • Function:computing service system, data service system, information service system, web-based programming interface, virtual machine based job scheduling, security management, monitor and et al • Performance:Efficiency, stability, practicability, and ease of use • Routine:standardization, internationalization • Team work:concentrated development combining with development of different region,independent development combining with cooperative development

Mission 3:University Digital Museum Grid • Based on the first phase construction of University Digital Museum Grid • Improve resources accessing efficiency • Reform the specimen service quality • Provide more friendly interface • Increase user population constantly • UDMGrid includes 40-50 digital museums of 10 cities and has 300,000-400,000 digital specimens of information

Mission 4: e-Research Grid • Improve research ability in various disciplines with grid technology • Resources sharing and cooperating • Resource pool of various discipline • Dispatching and intercommunication platform of each discipline information • Problem solving environment for each discipline • Typical applications of each discipline on the basis of grid technology
