  1. Joint Knowledge Development and Distribution Capability (Joint Knowledge Online, or JKO)Dr. Jerry West, JKDDC LNOJeff KrinockKnowledge Distribution Division

  2. JKO Enterprise Portal -- Where do you find us? -- Content Development/authoring -- Content Storage/repository -- Content Reuse/ADL-R

  3. JKO Enterprise Portal hosted in three places: NIPRnet: jko.jfcom.mil SIPRnet: jko.jwfc.jfcom.smil.mil Internet: jko.cmil.org

  4. JKO Enterprise Portal -- NIPR gets bulk of JKDDC traffic; hosted by Defense Knowledge Online -- Bulk of content accessed by users is currently SCORM-conformant courseware -- Delivered via the AtlasPro Learning Management System (LMS) -- Some international content also hosted by the Swiss on the ILIAS LMS (shareware product) -- Additional content directly accessible and launchable from the interface of the portal itself

  5. Content Authoring -- Requests for content development can come in from any JKDDC stakeholders; stakeholders can also “donate” content they’d like hosted by JKDDC -- Courseware is (will be) SCORM-conformant HTML and is tested in the SCORM Conformance Test Suite before deployment -- Courseware may contain MS Word docs, pdfs, Flash, movies, and/or audio -- Actual HTML developed at JKDDC is typically built in one of the following: Dreamweaver, Courseware Genie, or Articulate. Reload also used for SCORM packaging/repackaging -- Some international content developed by our NATO/Partnership for Peace partners may be developed in ILIAS or (previously), the PfP’s P-II LCMS product -- No matter its source (in-house, donated, or developed internationally) all content shares one trait: SCORM 2004 conformant

  6. Repository (content storage) -- Until April 2007, JKDDC content was stored on the Harvest Road Hive repository housed in Alexandria, VA -- April 2007 through July 2007 (interim solution), JKDDC content housed temporarily on a network drive behind the JFCOM firewall

  7. Repository (content storage) -- Aug 2007 on, content stored on JDLS (behind the JFCOM firewall -- At point of delivery, content sits on the AtlasPro server -- Other content (e.g., from Communities of Interest) sits on Defense Knowledge Online servers -- Small group training (ILES content) will likely sit on its own server, with direct link to ILES from the JKDDC portal -- This launch model (likely) will be followed for gaming, simulations, and all other content not typically designed for launch by LMS

  8. ADL-R (content reuse) -- JKDDC adheres to DoDI 1322.26 -- JKDDC currently shows more ADL-R registered content than anyone else -- Registration of content remains a manual process -- JKDDC moving toward a integrated content authoring environment --- Will allow for automatic movement of content from authoring tool to LMS --- Projected to auto-register SCORM content in the ADL-R at point of content publication to repository/LMS
