  13. Salvation is a process ”… work out your own salvation with fear and trembling … ” Phil. 2:12

  14. Conversion: The end of one life, the beginning of another We wereburied therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just asChrist was raised from the dead bythe glory of the Father, we too might walk innewness of life. Rom. 6:4

  15. What’s next? “For this is the will of God,your sanctification …” 1 Thes. 4:3a

  16. Entering the battle For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Eph. 6:12

  17. Sanctification • Two parts: Mortificationand Vivification • • Mortificationis the putting to death those things which rob us of our affections for Christ. • • Vivificationis the filling of ourselves with those things which stir our affections for Him. Example: Gardening, pulling weeds and sowing seeds.

  18. Mow over They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying, 'Peace, peace,’ but there is no peace. Jer. 6:14

  19. Cover up Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. Gen. 3:7

  20. Step 4:We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. “Let us examine and test our ways, and let us return to the Lord.” Lam. 3:40

  21. The Holy Spirit reveals “ …these thingsGod has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, eventhe depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughtsexcept the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” 2 Cor. 2:10-11

  22. Fearless? “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Heb. 10:31

  23. Want to look deeper than moral symptoms to what is reigning and ruling the heart For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. Mark 7:21-22

  24. The Lord sees your heart But the Lord said to Samuel,"Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart." 1 Sam. 16:7

  25. Balanced Inventory

  26. Of first importance Now I would remind you, brothers,of the gospelI preached to you, which you received,in which you stand, and by whichyou are being saved, if youhold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. ForI delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ diedfor our sinsin accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raisedon the third dayin accordance with the Scriptures, and thathe appeared to Cephas, thento the twelve. 1 Cor. 15:1-5

  27. Be careful not to… “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” Gal. 3:1-3

  28. Learning to war against accusation But God…

  29. Redeeming Truth of Step Four Now armed with the Spirit of God and in full view of the gospel, we engage in the spiritual battle over reign and rule of our hearts. We have been set apart for holiness and look to put to death those areas of ourselves that keep us from living out the greatest command and reflecting the radiance of Christ to a dark and dying world. We want to look much deeper than moral symptoms and identify the root issues of our hearts, namely pride and various forms of idolatry that drive ungodly thoughts, actions and emotions.
