  1. List 3

  2. 1. sun • the star that is the central body of the solar system, around which the planets revolve and from which they receive light and heat:

  3. 2. energy • The ability to cause changes in matter.

  4. 3. Water cycle • The continuous movement of water between Earths surface and the air, changing from liquid to a gas to a liquid.

  5. 4. Evaporation • The heat from the sun changes the water on Earth into a gas (water vapor). (Liquid into a gas)

  6. 5. condensation • The gas (water vapor) changes back into a liquid. The droplets of liquid form clouds.

  7. 6. precipitation • Any form of water particles that fall from the atmosphere and reach the ground. (rain, sleet, snow, hail)

  8. 7. transpiration • The loss of water through a plants leaves.

  9. 8. run-off • Precipitation that flows across the lands surface or falls into rivers and streams

  10. 9. Ground water • Water that is absorbed into the ground

  11. 10. stratus • A cloud that forms in a blanket like layer in the atmosphere at low altitude, rain likely

  12. 11. cumulonimbus • A huge anvil shaped cumulus cloud extending to great heights, grey and towering, thunderstorms likely

  13. 12. cirrus • A high altitude cloud with a feather like shape, wispy, white in color, no rain likely

  14. 13. cumulus • A puffy white cloud that appears to rise up from a flat bottom, no rain likely, fair weather

  15. nimbus • a dark grey rain-bearing cloud

  16. 14. Cloud cover • The amount of sky covered by the clouds when observed at a particular location

  17. 15. fog • A cloud at ground level

  18. 16. snow Crystals formed from water vapors

  19. Ice crystals • Crystals of ice formed in clouds

  20. 17. hail • Pellets made of ice and snow

  21. 18. sleet Partly frozen rain

  22. 19. rain Water falling in drops from the clouds

  23. 26. humidity The amount of water vapor in the air

  24. 28. meteorologist A person who studies the weather

  25. 30. heating The process of getting hotter

  26. 31. cooling The process of getting colder
