Consider the various items of playground equipment, through a visit to your local playground, use of the web or photographs. Discuss the positive and negative points of the facilities. Questions to ask include:-
* Why do we have playgrounds?
* Is the play equipment fun to use? Why?
* What are the correct names for the various items?
* What type of motion does the item include?
* What materials have been used?
* How have the parts been joined together?
* Is the equipment safe to use?
Possible questions to ask during visit
Design and make models of equipment for a playground
Encourage the children to incorporate other materials eg card, string or reclaimed materials to make the construction kit models more realistic.
