  5. Year 8 In History we look over long periods of time ‘Historians divide time into TWO periods’

  6. 2015 years ago Year 8 2015 AD A.D B.C Anything BEFORE my birth is known as BC ‘BC –means Before Christ Anything after my birth is known as AD ‘AD – this means Anno Domini (the Year of our Lord’)

  7. Can you guess where these dates would go on the timeline? Year 8 A.D B.C 5BC 1 BC 2015 BC 1 AD 2015 AD 1000 AD 1945 AD

  8. Can you guess where these dates would go on the timeline? Year 8 A.D B.C 1999AD 1066 AD 1815 AD 2015 AD 1945 AD 23 BC 3100 BC 452AD

  9. Year 8 Historians often look at events over long periods of time— Often over CENTURIES (A century = __100____ years) ‘

  10. Year 8 If you are 11 years old it means that you have lived for 11 complete years and are now in your 12th year. A newborn baby is 0 years old but is living in its first year. ‘

  11. To work out centuries you do the same… • Take the first 2 digits of a date • eg: 1945 (1st 2 digits are 19) • ADD 1 : (So 19 + 1 is 20) • So 1945 is in the 20th Century Year 8 • In a date with only 3 digits • eg: 945 AD • Use the first digit (eg 9) • ADD 1 : (So 9 + 1 is 10) • So 945 AD is in the 10th Century

  12. 1321 is in the 14th century Year 8 1321 13 + 1 = 14 So 1321 is in the 14th Century

  13. 800 is in the 9th century Year 8 800 8 + 1 = 9 So 800AD is in the 9th Century
