  5. Matthew 26-36-45 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. Then He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me." And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? Jesus’ Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane FOR MERCY

  6. "Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done." Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. And He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more. Then He came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Jesus’ Prayer in the Garden of GathsemaneFOR MERCY

  7. III. What was the result of the prayer? Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane God the Father says there is no other way. Jesus, in his moments of deepest sorrow, comes to the Father. Jesus obeys and accepts the will of the Father.

  8. We need to go to the Father in our deepest times of sorrow. We have the opportunity to obey even when the answer is not what we want. We can align our will with the Father. CONCLUSION

  9. Intro: Paul’s Prayer in Ephesians 3:14-21 Paul’s Prayer in Ephesians 3

  10. II. What is said in the prayer?

  11. Ephesians 3:14-21 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

  12. III. What was the result of the prayer?

  13. We spend far too much time worried about the external in our prayers. We need to echo Paul’s prayer. God loves to answer this prayer yes. God’s desire is for every believer to know Him. Our prayers can never out ask the ability of God. CONCLUSION
