  1. Using Instagram as a Marketing Tool Presented by: Ed Weeks Founder, HV Social Media

  2. Brief Overview • Why Instagram? • Personal vs Business • Content • #Hashtags • Insights • Promotion • Resources

  3. About Me

  4. Instagram Introduction • Businesses use imagery and visual storytelling to connect with customers • 80% of accounts follow a business • 60% learn about a service • 75% take action after being inspired by a post

  5. Personal vs Business Profile • Think of a business profile as a “beefed up” version of a personal profile • The major differences are: • Access to insights • Contact information • Instagram Ads

  6. Be recognized as a business • Get real time metrics on how your stories and promoted post perform throughout the day • Get insights into your followers and how they interact with your posts • Add information about your company • Business hours • Location • Phone Number • Convert to a business account within your app account settings

  7. Convert your current profile to a Business Profile • Log in to your account • Tap the settings icon (the gear) • Tap “switch to business profile” • You will be prompted to connect your profile to your Facebook page • Once connected, your Instagram profile will import the business info included on your Facebook page • Be sure to include a phone number • Also include a physical or email address

  8. Content • Instagram = Images (photo & video) • A strong visual voice is the key to driving real business results • Start with a clear goal and creative concept • Consider how Instagram fits into your overall marketing strategy • Is your objective to increase awareness, shift perception or reach a new audience? • Celebrate your brand’s look and feel • Choose themes to tell a cohesive story • Focus on craft • Take the time to create high-quality content • Take some time to learn from other brands

  9. Hashtags (#s) • Hashtags make your content discoverable and put you in front of users you may have never successfully targeted • People learned tossing 30 hashtags on a post only does so much–especially for businesses • There’s definitely a method behind the madness • Instagram posts with at least one hashtag tend to receive 12.6% more engagement • Get into the habit of using hashtags for main keywords mentioned • Using keywords without a hashtag won’t make your post discoverable • Remember what you came here for–to grow your brand and hopefully generate a positive ROI • It’s not just for a bunch of followers and likes

  10. Stories • The bar across the top of your feed highlights the friends and businesses that have shared stories within the last 24 hours • Stories let you connect to your audience and inspire people with full screen photos or videos • You can bring your stories to life with filters, text and drawings • Video limit is 15 seconds

  11. Ideas of how to use Stories • Behind-the-scenes footage • Product promotions • Limited time sales • Interactive tours • Teasers • How-tos • Interviews • Real-time news • Deliver ads

  12. Leveraging Insights • Learn more about the behavior and demographic of your audience so you can create relevant content that is effective at driving business results • Impressions • Total number of times your post has been seen in the past 7 days • Reach • How many unique people your post has reached in the past 7 days • Profile Visits • Website Clicks • Follower Insights

  13. Promoting on Instagram Can create from an existing post in a few simple steps • What is your goal? • More profile visits • More website traffic • More promotion views • Select Your Audience • Automatic (Instagram targets like followers) • Local • Manual • Select Your Budget & Duration • What is your spend and for how many days?
