Adonis • Lineage: According to “Ovid metamorphoses” Adonis was born from a tree that burst thus the creation of the infant. • Symbol: He symbolizes the flower Adonis, and the power of beauty and love • Power(s): He does not possess any power but his blood created the Adonis flower • Weakness: Mortality

3. Adonis • Identification: He was beautiful and many people liked him, even the gods. Especially Aphrodite and Persephone. • Epithet(s): The windflower • Allusion(s): A flower by the name Adonis refers the Greek myth. It is common for people to call a handsome person an “Adonis”

4. Narcissus • There is not a defined lineage for Narcissus • Symbol: Beauty, destruction, self- absorbent, power, selfishness. • Power(s): He was very beautiful and attracted many maidens and Nymph

5. Narcissus • Weaknesses: He only loved himself and turned away even the fairest maidens. • Identification: He was very beautiful, yet self- absorbed. He lacked the ability to love another. Echo was a nymph that loved him. • Allusion(s): A flower named narcissus refers to the Greek Myth. The word Narcissist comes from the Greek word “Narcissus” and is used to define someone whom is self- absorbed and selfish.

6. Hyacinth • Lineage: Son of Clio and Pierus • He also symbolizes beauty and its power • Powers: He was beautiful and rather strong, he was able to throw a discus the same distance as the god Apollo

7. Hyacinth • Weakness: Mortality • Identification: He was beautiful and loved by the god Apollo and the west wind, Zephyr. Zephyr, whom also loved Hyacinth became jealous and blew a discus upon Hyacinth and caused him to die. • Allusions: The flower hyacinth refers to the Greek Myth.

8. The death of Adonis • Adonis shared half of the year with Persephone (Queen of the dead) which was Autumn and Winter, and the other half with Aphrodite, which was Spring and Summer. • Adonis was told to only hunt weak animals but instead he attacked boar, the boar killed him thus creating the Adonis flower with his blood.

9. The Death of narcissus • He drowned because he was self absorbed. He fell in love with his reflection in a pool of water and fell in. Thus a flower being born from his dead body.

10. The death of hyacinth • He and Apollo were throwing a discus. Apollo loved Hyacinth but the West wind Zephyr became jealous of their love and caused the discus to strike Adonis. Thus the birth of the Adonis flower.
