  2. IN THE OPINION OF THE HOUSE ? • HEART DISEASES WERE VERY RARE BEFEORE THE CREATION OF PAKISTAN BECAUSE: • THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND IN PLENTY • THE WATER WAS CLEAN • THE HOUSING WAS BETTER • THERE WAS NO POLLUTION 2

  3. THREE MODES OF LEARNING • OBSERVATION – NEWTON – BEST – DIFFICULT • IMMITATION – BOOKS, LECTURES, ADVISE – EASY. • MISTAKE – A CHILD BURNING HIS HAND – TOUGH , BUT VERY EFFECTIVE 3

  10. UPPER CLASS LIFE STYLE IN THE 1950’S • BREAKFAST – LUNCH – DINNER • EGGS, BUTTER • TWO TO THREE DISHES • MEAT ALMOST DAILY • PRIVATE TONGA • A COUPLE OF MUSLIMS HAD SECOND HAND CARS – CHILDREN NOT ALLOWED TO RIDE THE CAR 10

  11. WHO COULD AFFORD THIS LIFE STYLE ? COLLECTOR SAHIB, COMMISSIONER SAHIB, NAWAB SAHIB, RAI SAHIB, KHAN BAHADUR SAHIB THEY WERE THE ONES WHO HAD: • HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE • DIABETES • HEART ATTACK 11

THE DIET AND LIFE STYLE PREVENTED THESE DISEASES IN MIDDLE AND LOWER CLASSESGOD CREATED MAN • TO WALK TO HIS WORK • STOP WORK, HAVING EARNED JUST ENOUGH TO SURVIVE • REST AFTER WORK • ADEQUATE SLEEP • WE DRIVE TO WORK • KEEP ON WORKING EVEN AFTER EARNING TO SURVIVE TEN LIVES. • DO NOT TAKE EVEN MINIMUM REST • DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SLEEP - ELECTRICITY 12

NUTRITIONAL ADVICE - I • LIVE ON VEGETABLES AND DAL • WHITE OF EGG – GOOD SOURCE OF PURE PROTIENS • TWO OUNCES OF ANIMAL FOOD DAILY i.e. 14 TIMES OF PRE-PAKISTAN MIDDLE CLASS CONSUMPTION • BREAD: CHOLESTROL FREEE BUT PUTS ON WEIGHT (IF WEIGHT IS A PROBLEM 3 oz/day) • SUGAR: NO • WHOLE MILK AND BUTTER: NO • FOR CALCIUM SUPPLEMENT TAKE CALCIUM TABLETS 15

  16. NUTRITIONAL ADVICE - II • FRUITS • EXCESS FRUITS WILL INCREASE WEIGHT AND RAISE TRIGLYCERIDES • 4 OZ/DAY IF NO TRIGLYCERIDE PROBLEM FOR DIABETES • BANANA AND MANGO ½ PER DAY 16

  17. EXERCISE AND RELAXATION ! • WALK AT LEAST HALF AN HOUR WHILE EMPTY STOMACH EVERY DAY • SLEEP 8 HOURS IN 24 HOURS • SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY • HAVE A RELAXING HOBBY • DON’T SMOKE • AVOID STRESS: THE NATURE OF STRESS ? 17

  26. MILK • Entire mammal species Consumed by young ones from own species Puppy from Dog foal from mare Baby from human mother man is the only mammal whose adult takes milk that too From other species like cow buffalo etc 23

Presently Infectious disease are not a Problem – Obesity very common Metabolic syndrome 25% in Lyari Milk will add to obesity raise cholesterol and sugar level Calcium supplement 1600mg – 1.5L of skimmed milk Rs.105/= Calcium Tablet 1600mg Rs.6/= No justification for milk consumption as calcium supplements 25
