  1. SPILL – RESISTANT VACUUMBREAKER ASSEMBLY SVBA TESTING

  2. Review of Backflow Prevention Assembly Test Procedures and Diagnostics These procedures are used in many areas of the U.S. and Canada. These procedures are intended as a review of basic test procedures and diagnostics intended for trained and experienced BAT testers. The enclosed test procedures are not intended as a replacement for Approved Backflow Assembly Tester Education and/or Backflow Assembly Tester Certification, as required in many areas.

  3. SPILL- RESISTANT VACCUM BREAKER CHECK VALVE PASSED 1.0 PSID or Greater PSID FAILED AIR INLETOPENED 1.0 PSID or Greater PSID CONTINUED TO OPEN FULLY X YES NO FAILED TO OPEN PASSED TEST x YES NO REMARKS:

  4. EXAMPLES OF REQUIRED PRELIMINARIES NOTIFY - Obtain permission to turn water off to test assembly including and estimated time water will be off. Fire sprinkler systems require additional notifications. IDENTIFY - Verify make, model, size and serial number to insure the correct assembly the is being tested. INSPECT - Assembly shall be installed correctly and listed on the current “Assembly Approved List” OBSERVE • - General condition of assembly, direction of flow, shut off valves and test cocks properly located and usable.

  5. PRELIMINARY STEPS NOTIFY IDENTIFY INSPECT OBSERVE

  6. REMOVE CANOPY

  7. FLUSH TC

  8. FLUSH VENT VALVE LOOSEN VENT VALVE SCREW UNTIL WATER TRIPS, THEN CLOSE

  9. CONNECT TEST KIT UNUSED HOSES ARE RAPTED OR REMOVED

  10. CONNECT TEST KIT CLOSE ALL VALVES

  11. CONNECT TEST KIT INSTAL COMPENSATING VALVE NO TC # 1

  12. CONNECT TEST KIT HIGH HOSE TO COMPENSATING VALVE

  13. PURGE OPEN TC

  14. PURGE OPEN HIGH BLEED: FILL AIR INLET VALVE WITH WATER:CLOSE HIGH BLEED WHEN PURGED FILL AIR INLET VALVE

  15. ISOLATE CLOSE SOV #2

  16. ISOLATE ELEVATE TEST KIT CENTER LINE OF TEST GAUGE MUST BE MAINTAINED AT THE SAME LEVEL AS THE VENT VALVE WHILE TESTING CV & INITIAL OPENING POINT OF AIR INLET VALVE

  17. ISOLATE CLOSE SOV #1

  18. CV TEST REDUCE PRESSURE TO ATMOSHERIC DOWNSTREAM OF CV EXPECTATIONS?? PSID REDUCES, FLOW FROM VENT VALVE CEASES AND GAUGE STABILIZES, PSID ACROSS CV SHALL BE 1.0 PSID OR GREATER OR WHEN PSID REDUCES, FLOW FROM VENT VALVE CEASES, CV DOES NOT HOLD 1.0 PSID OR PSID MAY OR MAY NOT REDUCE AS FLOW CONTINUES FROM VENT VALVE O

  19. CV PSID SLOWLY OPEN AND VENT VALVE SCREW

  20. CV PSID REMOVE VENT VALVE SCREW TEST KIT MUST REMAIN ELEVATED O

  21. TEST KIT REMAINSELEVATED VENT SCREW WHEN FLOW CEASES FROM VENT VALVE & GAUGE STABILIZES; CV SHALL HOLD TIGHT AT 1.0 PSID OR GREATER (RECORD CV PSID LATER WHEN GAUGE IN LOWERED).

  22. AIR INLET TEST INITIAL OPENING POINT REDUCE WATER PRESSURE IN BODY EXPECTIONS? AIR INLET VALVE SHALL INITIALLY OPEN AT OR GREATER THAN 1.0 PSID OR AIR INLET VALVE DOES NOT OPEN OR AIR INLET OPENS BELOW 1.0 PSID

  23. STEP 1: AIR INLET VALVE INITIAL OPENING POINT 1. REDUCE PSID BY SLOWLY OPENING HIGH BLEED MAXIMUN OF ¼ TURN. TEST KIT REMAINSELEVATED

  24. AIR INLET VALVE OPENING PSID 2. OBSERV PSID REDUCE SLOWLY TO THE INITIAL OPENING POINT OF THE AIR INLET VALVE. 3. LOWER TEST KIT 4. RECORD INITIAL PSID PENING POINT WATER ON TOP OF AIR INLET VALVE WILL SUDDENDLY DROP OR FLOW FROM VENT VALVE AT INITIAL OPENING POINT initial opening point O

  25. 5) RECORD CV PSID (4.2) AND AIR INLET INITIAL OPENING PSID (2.0 PSI) SPILL- RESISTANT VACCUM BREAKER CHECK VALVE PASSED 4.2 PSID FAILED AIR INLETOPENED 1.8 PSID CONTINUED TO OPEN FULLY YES NO FAILED TO OPEN PASSED TEST YES NO REMARKS:

  26. STEP 2: OBSERVE AIR INLET CONTINUES TO OPEN FULLY EXPECTIONS? OBSERVE AIR INLET VALVE CONTINUES TO OPEN FULLY OR AIR INLET VALVE DOES NOT CONTINUE TO OPEN FULLY

  27. AIR INLET VALVE CONTINUES TO FULLY OPEN ONCE CV PSID VALUE AND INITIAL OPENING POINT OPENING OF THE AIR INLET VALVE IS RECORED……… 1. CLOSE HI BLEED VALVE (TEST GAUGE)

  28. AIR INLET VALVE CONTINUES TO FULLY OPEN 2. REMOVE HI BLEED HOSE FROM COMPENSATING VALVE TO ALLOW WATER TO DRAIN FROM THE SVBA BODY.

  29. AIR INLET VALVE CONTINUES TO FULLY OPEN 3. WHEN THIS FLOW OF WATER STOPS, OBSERVE AIR INLET VALVE CONTINUES TO FULLY OPENED. OBSERVE AIR INLET FULLY OPENED REPORT AND RECORD AIR INLET CONTINUED TO FULLY OPEN.

  30. SPILL- RESISTANT VACCUM BREAKER CHECK VALVE PASSED 4.2 PSID FAILED AIR INLETOPENED 1.8 PSID CONTINUED TO OPEN FULLY X YES NO FAILED TO OPEN PASSED TEST YES NO REMARKS:

  31. RETURN TO SERVICE INSTALL VENT VALVE SCREW CLOSE CV #1

  32. RETURN TO SERVICE CLOSE TC

  33. RETURN TO SERVICE CLOSE TC

  34. RETURN TO SERVICE OPEN SOV #1

  35. RETURN TO SERVICE OPEN SOV #2

  36. RETURN TO SERVICE REMOVE VALVE COMPENSATING VALVE

  37. RETURN TO SERVICE INSTALL CANOPY

  38. RETURN TO SERVICE IN CLASS…….. “I WILL NOTIFY OWNER, WATER IS BACK ON & ASSEMBLY PASSED”. “I WILL CORRECTLY FILL OUT TEST REPORT” “I’M DONE TESTING THIS ASSEMBLY”

  39. SPILL- RESISTANT VACCUM BREAKER (SVBA) CHECK VALVE PASSED 5.2 PSID FAILED AIR INLETOPENED 1.8 PSID CONTINUED TO OPEN FULLY X YES NO FAILED TO OPEN PASSED TEST x YES NO REMARKS:
