  2. Mountains and plateaus • High mountains in region historically limited contact. • The Himalayas serve as a natural barrier and feature Mount Everest, the worlds tallest mountain peak. • Many climbers have died trying to reach it’s summit.

  3. Rivers, Deltas, and Plains Three major rivers in region: • They carry rich soil on their journey from the mountains.

  4. Islands and Peninsulas • Sri Lanka and Maldives make up two small countries off the southern coast of India.

  5. QUESTION: Which area do you think gets more rain a year…DFW, or New Delhi, India?

  6. Monsoons • Monsoons are strong seasonal winds. • Winter – Winds come from Northeast very dry. • Summer – Winds blow in moisture from Indian Ocean.
