  1. SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMME Even Wiger, Director of sustainability 22/03/2011

  2. Main objective: By the 2015 season we aim to achieve: All major stakeholders will run within new FIA Institute Environmental standards and certification framework. All major events will be run as carbon neutral events. FIA Institute will launch a collaboration agreement with UNEP for further improvement.

  3. Main objective: This main objective is split across 3 programmes: Programme A: Targeting ASNs in countries where major championships/events are located. Programme B: Targeting organiserswith own plant. (Typical circuits) Programme C: Targeting organisers without own plant. (Typical Rally/Promo.)

  4. The concept: The concept is based on the FIA Institute engaging actively with different stakeholders (ASNs and organisers) to contribute to this main objective. The concept is based on the principle of «learning by doing» The concept is divided by three programmes A, B, C, which all have the same overall objectives and values, but must be split due to differences in risk, ownership and organisation. Its based on logical conditions in the motor sport family. FIA Institute’s role is motivation, and the development of a FIA institute Environmental Standards and certification framework with complete guidelines, best practices, certification, and risk profiles. ASNs and organisers will be visited and supported by a “FIA Institute Sustainability Team” on an ongoing basis. Collaboration with UNEP, who are the largest and most credible partner you can find.

  5. Implementation: • This framework must be implemented step by step, and it is planned to developed • in three versions. This is to ensure a good learning process, and ensure that • the weakest link is able to continuously improve. • Plan for implementation: • Programme A (ASN): • 2011 -> 2012 v1/FIAI ES, very easy with basic demands. • 2013 -> v2/FIAI ES, included environmental accounting. • 2014 -> v3/FIAI ES, (Carbon Neutrality=use investment for improvement) • Programme B (circuits): • 2011 -> 2012 v1/FIAI ES, very easy with basic demands. • 2013 -> v2/FIAI ES, included environmental accounting. • 2015 -> v3/FIAI ES, included environmental accounting and carbon neutrality. • Programme C (rally/promoters): • 2011 -> 2012 v1/FIAI ES, very easy with basic demands. • 2013 -> v2/FIAI ES, included environmental accounting. • 2015 -> v3/FIAI ES, included environmental accounting and carbon neutrality.

  6. Organisation:

  7. Economy - funding: • Funding for the project will come from the FIA Institute's core budget for sustainability. (Establish new standars and support “Sustainability Team”, day by day operations in the programme.) • Additional support for implementation within ASNs network, could be made available subject to expansion in the remit of the Motor Sport Development Fund to include Sustainability. On going discussions….

  8. Summary: • ASNs connected to major events can pilot the programme within 2011. • WRC events/circuits can pilot the programme within 2011. • It will be a quit easy “step by step” process to get all at same level before final goal is achieved. • Good examples will be adopted to others, I'm sure they are out there. • When completed this plan, FIA Institute should invite UNEP / CN network to prepare cooperation from 2014. • This is credible, simple, guidance is available. • Its based on a lot of “learning by doing” – and key factor is environmental leadership. • Be ambitious about sustainability – join the programme !
