  5. This “Discovering My SHAPE & MINISTRY has 2 goals. • Discover your SHAPE. • Discover your Work Ministry, Home Ministry, Church Ministry, World Ministry.

  6. Your SHAPE is your: • S = Spiritual Gifts – God given gifts to build up God’s people. • H = Heart - Your desires and passions in life. • A = Abilities – The things you are able to do well or able to develop. • P = Personality – The way you act, feel, and think. • E = Experiences – Your unique history of past life events.

  7. I need to discover My SHAPE and Ministry • So I can bring GLORY to God! • So I know how to best serve God and others in my work place, home, church, and world. • So I can correctly invest my life – Not Waste it. • Some of us are not Investing … not Investing in God’s Kingdom.

  8. 1 Corinthians 12 1 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.  4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b]11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

  9. 1 Corinthians 12 12 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.  14 Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

  10. 1 Corinthians 12 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

  11. 1 Corinthians 12 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[d]? Do all interpret? 31 But eagerly desire[e] the greater gifts.

  12. Discovering Your SHAPE & Ministry What is Your Spiritual Gift?

  13. Charisma root word is “Charis” which means grace.

  14. Purpose of Spiritual Gifts… Building up the Church and Serving Others. Ephesians 4:10-13 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 1 Peter 4:10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.;

  15. What is a Spirtual Gift? It is Not: • Spiritual Fruit - Galatians 5:22-23 • Human Talent – • Spiritual Discipline • Spiritual Gifts Spiritual Disciplines • Evangelism Witnessing • Faith Prayer • Knowledge Study • Giving Tithing • Helps Serving (where needed) • Ministry Positions • Irresistible Power

  16. What is a Spirtual Gift? It is: • A divine, supernatural ability given by God to enable Christians to serve others and build up the church. • A Special Tool for ministry.

  17. Touchy Areas with Spiritual Gifts: • 1.Tradition • “We have always done it this way.” • 2.Ignorance • “I Just don’t Understand.” • 3.Subjectivism • “Based on My Feeling and Experiences” • 4.Misuse • “Oops, I’m sorry,”

  18. How do I Discover My Spiritual Gifts? • Study God’s Word (Rm 12, 1 Cor 12, • 1 Pt 4:10-11, Eph 4:10-13). • Ask God to Give you a Gift. • Check your Motives for desiring a Sp. Gift. • Ask other Christians about your Spiritual Gifts and listen. • Take a Spiritual Gifts Test • Try it / Experiment. - Just do it”. • Evaluate results of your service and ministry. • Identify needs you see in the church and serve there.

  19. 3 Ways god wants you to use your gifts:/ 3 ways to experiment: 1.Through an Ongoing Ministry. 2.Through Short-Term Projects. 3.Through Spontaneous Situations. • “It is easier to discover your gift through ministry than to discover your minstry through your gift – so minster.” [SHAPE 301 – p. 21]

  20. 5 Important cautions about SG. 1.Gift – envy. 2.Gift – projection. 3.Superior vs. Inferior 4. Love is Most Important 5.You Have a Primary and Secondary Ministry in the Church

  21. 1. Gift – envy. • “Only you can be you, and when you are not, the Church suffers”. • Our thinking should be …1 Cor 12:26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. 2. Gift – projection. • 1 Cor 12:17-19 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be?

  22. 3. Superior vs. Inferior 1 Cor. 12:21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don‘t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” [NIV] 眼不能對手說:「我用不著你。」頭也不能對腳說:「我用不著你。」

  23. 4. Love is Most Important 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 13:1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. [NIV]

  24. 5.You Have a Primary and Secondary Ministry in the Church: ·My Primary Ministry commitment to the Body is where I am gifted. ·My Secondary Ministry commitment to the Body is where I am needed. Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” [NIV] 我又聽見主的聲音說:「我可以差遣誰呢?誰肯為我們去呢?」我說:「我在這裏,請差遣我!」 Matthew 20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.“ [NIV] 正如人子來,不是要受人的服事,乃是要服事人,並且要捨命,作多人的贖價。
