Welcome to the JFHS Class of 2017! This guide will help incoming 9th graders understand the registration process and the crucial information regarding credits and verified credits in high school. What are credits and Verified Credits? • Every class you take (and pass) in high school is worth 1 credit. • A verified credit is earned when you pass a class and the SOL test that goes with that class.
SOL Tests • Math – Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry • Science – Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry • History – World History I, World History II, US History • English – Reading and Writing (11th grade)

Important information about JFHS • There are 3 lunch periods at JF- go by 4th period class-not by grade level and you can choose where you sit each day. • Must change clothes for gym class. • Will get a locker, but are allowed to carry your backpack. • There will be a “Moving-up Day” in August just for 9th graders.
More Info… • Students must take and pass 5 new classes to participate in VHSL activities. • JF has 6 classes per day with an optional 0-period class that starts at 7:55 ( there are only a few classes offered 0-period) • JF does not have A/B day- every class meets everyday.
Terms • Pre-AP- classes that prepare student for AP classes ( not required for AP but recommended. • AP- Advanced Placement – College level courses developed by College and University Professors through the CollegeBoard.
Terms continued • DE= Dual Enrollment- college course taken for both college and high school credit. • BSTC= Bedford Science and Technology Center, our Vocational School in the City of Bedford.
