  2. facts • Malcolm X wanted racial unity • He was born on May 19,1925 in Omaha Nebraska and was the 7th of 11 kids • Just before he was born masked riders said they should get out of town • When he was 4, whites burned his house • When Malcolm was 6 his father was killed his mother had a nervous brake down and his family was split

  3. facts • He believed that the whites were to blame for the separating of his family • He wanted to be a lawyer but because he was black he had to be a carpenter instead so he left at 8th grade • In 1942 he moved to the black side of New York where he cheated to make money • He moved to Boston where he made a burglar ring

  4. facts • In 1946 he was taken to prison • While he was in prison he learned Islam • He changed his last name in prison from Little to x • He learned Islam in prison from a group called The Nation of Islam who believed the whites were devils • He started many Muslim groups in the U.S

  5. facts • In 1954 he went back to New York to be a minister of a important temple • In 1957 he made a Muslim newspaper called Mohamed speaks • In 1960s he was the best Muslim minister • In 1939 he got suspended from the group • In 1964 he left the group completely • He made his own group called the Organization of Afro American Unity or OAAU
