Other Reformers • Protestant ideas spread • John Calvin – predestination (God decided in advance whether an individual would be saved or condemned) • King Henry VIII - head of the Church of England because the pope would not annul (cancel) his marriage. • Effects • The Catholic Church ended many abuses. • Protestants and Catholics fought bitter wars.
