  1. Trashketball 2 Figurative Language

  2. Rules of Trashketball • Stay in your seats at all times. • You will have 30-60 seconds to discuss the answer to a question AND • Write ONE response to the question on a sheet of paper. • All teams will hold up their answers. • If you are correct, your team will get the opportunity to shoot the correct response into the trashcan from a 1, 2, or 3 point line. • If the shot is made, the team gets extra-credit. • Shots will be made after ALL the questions have been answered.

  3. Possible Answers • Idiom - an expression having a special meaning different from the usual (literal) meanings of the words • Adage - a proverb or short statement expressing a general truth • Proverb - stating a general truth or piece of advice • Similes - a comparison of two things using like or as • Metaphors - a direct comparison of two different things

  5. Answer Idiom - - meaning to annoy or bother someone

  6. 2 Actions speak louder than words

  7. Answer Proverb: they way you act is more important than what you say.

  9. Answer Metaphor: He is compared to a pearl without using the word “like” or “as.”

  10. 5 My teacher is an angry bear.

  11. Answer Metaphor: teacher is compared to an angry bear without using the word “like” or “as.”

  13. Answer Idiom - means you are very ill

  15. Answer Simile: The sun is compared to sword using the word “like.”

  17. Answer Idiom - means you are holding a grudge
