Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) • Objective: • To create research ambience in the engineering institutes. • To generate Masters and Doctoral degree candidates. • To create and update the general research capabilities of the faculty members. • The proposal should include a specific project theme and the expected deliverables from the project. • Eligibility of the Institute: AICTE approved Institutes / AICTE approved University Departments with relevant PG programme. • Eligibility of the Coordinator: Full time regular Faculty • Duration of the Project: Three Year • Limit of Funding: 25 Lakhs • Disbursement of grant: • Advance - Non Recurring component + Recurring component of Year 1 • 2nd Installment - On completion of year 1 on submission of documents. • 3rd Installment - On completion of year 2 on submission of documents. • Relevant Documents: Yearly report along with Payment & Receipt A/C, Utilization Certificate. • Expected Outcome: To create and update general research capabilities. • Processing Methodology: Evaluation by three member expert committee. • Deliverables: • At least one PhD thesis submitted at the end of 3 Years. • Minimum 5 papers published out of which one at least in National /International Journal. • Minimum 3 Conferences / Seminars / Workshop / Training Programs organized. • Minimum 3 Consultancy projects executed

Travel Grant (TG): Faculty • Objective: To present research papers at conferences, to participate in workshops and seminars, or even to gain exposure to the academic systems and best practices prevalent there. • Eligibility of the Institute:AICTE approved Institutes / University Departments • Eligibility of the Coordinator: Full time regular Faculty to be sanctioned once in 2 years to the applicant • Duration of the Project: Not applicable • Limit of Funding: 1.5 Lakhs • Reimbursement: Reimbursement on submission of documents. • Relevant Documents: Travel documents, conference report along with payment and receipt account as applicable. • Expected Outcome: Interaction of faculty at International level. • Processing Methodology: Evaluation by three member expert committee.

Career Award for Young Teachers (CAYT) • Objective: • The scheme promotes young talented teachers for research and study with minimum teaching responsibility of 6 hours per week in the present institution. • The awardees shall be treated as on duty and therefore they shall continue to earn normal increments and shall maintain seniority in their respective Institute / University / College. • The awardees is not allowed to shift from the host institution. • In case the awardees shifts from the host institution, the award will automatically get terminated and the award money released by the AICTE to the Institution with respect to the awardees, will have to be refunded immediately by the concerned Institution. • The awardees should work for 3 years at the Institution after the completion of the award. • Eligibility of the Institute: AICTE approved Institutes/University Departments • Eligibility of Coordinator: Full time regular Faculty within 35 years of age with P.G. • Duration of the Project: Three Year • Limit of Funding: 9 Lakhs • Disbursement of grant: • On Sanction of Proposal - Rs. 3 Lakhs • Year 2 - Rs. 3 Lakhs on submission of documents. • Year 3 - Rs. 3 Lakhs on submission of documents. • Relevant Documents: Yearly Report, project completion report along with Payment & Receipt A/c, Utilization Certificate. • Expected Outcome: Professional growth and incentive for innovations in teaching and research. • Processing Methodology: Evaluation by three member expert committee.

National Doctoral Fellowship (NDF) • Objectives: • To attract highly qualified and motivated candidates to pursue doctoral degree and offer themselves for teaching position in the Technical Education system. • To provide research support to bright young candidates for pursuing exciting and innovative research in the field of Technical Education. • Eligibility of the Institute: IITs, NITs, IISc, IIMs, BARC, TIFR, DRDO, ISCR, ISIR, Institutes of excellence and Central Government Research lab. • Eligibility of the applicant: Enrolled in one of the above Institute with GATE/GPAT/CMAT/CAT with minimum 95percentile or equivalent and age below 35 years. • Duration of the Project: Three Year • Disbursement of grant: Per annum the grant will be disbursed as follows on submission of relevant documents. • Rs 2,16,000 per annum @ Rs. 18,000/- per month as fellowship. • Rs. 25,000/- per annum as contingency • Rs. 20,000/- per annum to the Host Institute as overhead charge. • Relevant Documents: Yearly report along with Payment & Receipt A/c, Utilization Certificate. • Expected Outcome: Enhance the number of PhD with quality • Processing Methodology: Evaluation by three member expert committee.

Young Scientists • Objectives: • To provide research support to young scientists for pursuing exciting and innovative research ideas. • To provide opportunities for interaction and exchange of ideas with scientific community. • To involve young scientists in national S & T development process. • Eligibility: • The scheme is open to Indian nationals only • Ph.D in Basic Science (Life Science, Physical Science, Chemical Science, Earth & Atmospheric Science, Mathematical Science), Engineering/Technology, Medicine/Surgery, Dental, Pharmacy, Veterinary cience, Agricultural Science Or Post Graduate Degree in Medicine/Surgery, Dental & Veterinary Science. • The Candidate should be less than 35 years on the date submission of the application in SERB. • Age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC, Women and physically handicapped category as per GOI Rules. • Funding: • Maximum of Rs. 20 lakhs (excluding overhead charges) along with fellowship amount of Rs 55,000/- per month (all inclusive if the applicant not holding a regular position or not drawing any other fellowship/stipend/salary). • Funds are provided for equipments, consumables, travel, analytical charges and contingency etc. • The fellowship amount is taxable. • Duration: Maximum 3 years. • Date of Application: Through out year programme. • Contact: http://serb.gov.in/srg.php

Extra Mural Research Funding (Individual Centric) • Objective: • Individual centric competitive mode of funding will be provided under the EMR funding schemes. • SERB supports potential scientists for undertaking research in frontier areas of S&T in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences & Mathematical Sciences. • Date of Application: Throughout the year.

Utilisation of the Scientific Expertise of Retired Scientists (USERS) • Objective: • To utilise expertise and potential of large number of eminent scientists in the country who remain active and deeply motivated to participate in S&T development activities even after their retirement. • Activity: • The scheme has continued to play a significant role in involving a large number of retired scientists in S&T developmental activities. • The main activity under the programme were preparation of books/monographs/state-of-the-art reports. • Till date 65 books published under the scheme

  16. International Travel Support (ITS) • Objective: • Provides financial assistance for presenting a research paper in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/ symposium/workshop etc.) held abroad. • Support is also provided to young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of conference) for attending training programmes and short-term schools/workshops/courses. • Economy class air-fare by shortest route, airport-tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. • Registration Fee is provided to young scientist in addition to the above support. • Eligibility: • Applicant should be an active researcher engaged in R&D work in academic institutions or research laboratories. • The applicant should have an invitation for presenting a paper/attending training programmes. • The applicant should not have availed financial assistance from this Scheme during the last three years. • The event should be of an international character. Invitation of personal nature such as for carrying out post-doctoral work, informal training programmes etc. will not be considered. • The application should be forwarded through proper channel and must reach at least two months prior to the date of the event. • CANVASSINGIN ANY FORM WILL DISQUALIFY THE APPLICANT FROM SEEKING TRAVEL AND OTHER SUPPORT FROM THE BOARD. • Results: • The results will be hosted on web site about four weeks before the commencement of the event under the caption “what is new”. • Individual communications will be sent only to the recommended candidates. • Reimbursement: • The Board, in the event of selection will initially issue a commitment letter. • The amount will be reimbursed only after participation in the event and submitting a report and other details in prescribed proforma within one month from the date of the event. • Contact: Sh. Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC) • Objectives: • Introducing patent information as a vital input in the process of promotion of R&D programmes • Providing patent facilities to scientists and technologists in the country for Indian and Foreign patents on a sustained basis. • Keeping a watch on developments in the area of IPR and make important issues known to policy makers, scientists, industry etc. • Creating awareness and understanding relating to patents and the challenges and opportunities in this area including arranging workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. • Role: • Scientists would need information, orientation and facilities for protecting the products of their intellectual prowess. • As a first step in this direction a Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC) was set up by Department of Science and Technology under Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) in 1995. • Major Indian scientific establishments have in-house facilities to provide patent support to their scientists. Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) • Objective: • To attract the talent to the study of science at an early stage. • Strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology system and R&D base. • INSPIRE components: a) SEATS, b) SHE & c) AORC • a) Scheme for Early Attraction of Talents for Science (SEATS): • INSPIRE Award to one million young learners in the age group 6th to 10th Std. (Age group of 10-15 years). • Names of the Students will be nominated by the Principal/Headmaster/Headmistress • There will exhibitions at the District Level, State Level, Regional level and National Level for displaying the best exhibit/project of each level. • Each student will get an amount of Rs 5000 for making a Project and transportation cost for displaying the exhibits/ project in the exhibition • b) Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE): • 10,000 scholarships every year @ Rs 0.80 lakh per year in the age group 17-22 years, for undertaking Bachelor and Masters level education in Natural and Basic sciences. • Mentorship support through 'summer attachment‘ . • Eligibility is top 1% in 12th standard, JEE top 10,000 ranks, AIEEE (top 10,000 ranks), AIPMT (top 10,000 ranks) • c) Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC): • Doctoral INSPIRE Fellowship in the age group 22-27 years, in both Basic and Applied sciences (including engineering and medicine) for students having 1st rank in University or aggregate more than 65% • INSPIRE Faculty Scheme opens up (AORC) in the age group of 27-32 years. The Scheme offers contractual research positions. It provides career opportunities, but it is not a guarantee for tenure positions after 5 years.
