  1. Assistant Official Mechanics -When is an Assistant official needed? -Duties of an Assistant official -Observation signals of the Assistant -Scenarios

  2. When is the Assist. Official needed? -The Assistant official may be used during competition, and designed to minimize human error in matters of rule applications and judgments. (3-2-1) -Will also be granted the same mobility as the head referee and complement and assist the referee in making calls. (3-2-2) *Suggest to have an assistant referee in championship matches. *Helps to have extra eyes on the match, and do not be embarrassed to ask for an assistant if you believe you need one. *Rookies

  3. Duties of an Assistant official -Constant verbal communication between referee and assistant is necessary throughout the match. Concerning stalling, line calls, illegal holds/maneuvers, TV, potentially dangerous holds, and time remaining in period. (3-2-2a) -Assist. Ref should be facing opposite of each other to remain in best view of both wrestlers. -Assistant should not communicate with the coaches at any time during the match or after about any calls. Direct them to the head ref of that match. *Suggestion, as the ref awards points, assistant should make sure those points are being awarded to the appropriate wrestler. *Suggestion, Assistant pregame with the ref.

  4. Observation signals of the Assistant -If the Assistant referee observes interlocking hands or grasping of clothing, the proper signal should be given immediately, and the assistant referee should inform the referee of the infraction. (3-2-2d) -If the referee observes an illegal full nelson, he shall signal it to the ref. *Suggestion on stalling or obvious considerations by the assistant, walk around, behind the ref and inform the ref to keep an eye on considered stalling wrestler depending on the situation and judgment on the ref. The ref does not need to stop the match or can also void the assistants observation.

  5. SCENARIOS Coach approaches the table, wishes to have a conference at the table. Ref acknowledges and pauses the match when there is no action. What should both refs be doing? Should the assistant be trying to correct the individual score during the match when there is no action? Why? Coach asks for the head ref to confirm with the assistant on a call, if the assistant referee disagrees with the call, can the call be reversed?

  6. THANK YOU! LETS MAKE THIS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR OUR UPCOMING NEW OFFICIALS. -Moises F. Archer (VWOA)
