  1. How to Improve Political Involvement IIABCal and the Emerging Leaders Committee

  2. Introduction • Mike Orrick – VP Membership for IIABCal • Bryon Pedevill-Emerging Leaders Committee Chair PTL Insurance Brokers, Inc. • Rob Oates – Emerging Leaders Committee Vice Chair Armstrong and Associates Insurance Services • Robert Garden – 1440 Group Inc.

  3. The Challenge • Declining member participation • Declining attendance at event • Lack of perceived member value

  4. Solution Create a new experience: • Cost effective for members • Convenient • Did not take too much time away from their day • Ongoing value • Enhances perceived member value

  5. Virtual Political Summit • 45 minute virtual live event • Keynote Speakers: • State Senator Juan Vargas • State Senator Ted Gaines • Assemblyman Jeff Miller • Attendees could view anywhere • Taped so could be viewed at later date • No cost to attend

  6. Behind the Scenes • Months of planning involved • Video taped and edited in advance • Live Streaming - Ustream Platform

  7. Mobile Viewing IPhone Android

  8. Facebook Viewing

  9. Website Integration

  10. Results • 75% increase in attendance • More member exposure – convenience, expense, etc. • 500+ people viewed the event

  11. What we learned • 45 minutes is too long • Break down into ongoing digestible pieces • Not enough social engagement • Don’t use primetime for lower level messages • It only lasted a day – year long effort needed • Didn’t display member value appropriately

  12. Changes for this year • Shrinking it to about 20 focused minutes • Better social/member engagement • Creating a year long series • Improving the message to highlight the value of the association’s political advocacy

  13. The future • Keep fine tuning an ongoing political message • Create an IIABCal Channel that has both live and taped events and updates • Find new ways to deliver value back to the members • Create a live event
