  2. Medical Device Industry Overview  • 18 of the top 25 Medtech companies located here • The sector has €9.4bn in exports annually • Ireland produces 80% of the worlds stents • Directly employs 27,000 people • Since 2014, more than 2,000 jobs created

Current careers in Medtech 81% currently hiring engineers, identified as a key shortage area for sector; Key specific engineering disciplines that are predominant in the sector include; Biomedical Production Industrial Manufacturing Validation Automation Process Design Product Design Polymer Engineers Research & Development Quality Engineers Software Engineers Computer Scientists Regulatory Affairs Professionals   Qualificationsof Engineers are generally between primary degree and PhD level. Operators depending on the particular can be from level 5-7 on the NQF.

  5.   • We have upskilled 180 people through this programme in 3 years • Of which, 85% found employment in the industry after 6 months • Currently, major skills shortage in the North West • 20 different Medtech companies have sought Quality graduates since January • Our next programme runs in NUI Galway – Monday 29th February
