  3. Tundra • Temperature: • During the Arctic winter the temperature can get as low as -60 Fahrenheit. • The average temperature of the warmest month range from 50-32. • Average annual temperatures range from 10-20 Fahrenheit. • Annual precipitation: usually less than 10 inches. Next slide.

  4. Physical features • Tundras are usually rocky plains, but in summer months Tundras are covered in marshes, lakes, bogs, and streams. • There is a thick subsurface layer of soil called the permafrost that covers most of the tundra and is frozen throughout the year. Next slide.

  5. Geopraphical Location: Arctic and Antarctic circles Next slide.

  6. Animals • There are many different types of Mammals and Birds found in the Tundra. • Some birds found in the Tundra include the Gyrfalcon, the Rock Ptarmigan, the Snowy Owl, the Ruddy Turnstone, the Snow Bunting, and the Tundra Swan. • Mammals commonly found in the Tundra include the Arctic Fox, Polar Bear, Caribou, Norway Lemming, and Musk Ox. During the summer months permafrost thaws and allows plants to grow. Usually the only plants found in the Tundra are small shrubs, Lichens, Cushion Plants, and Cotton Grass. Next slide.

  10. Physical features: • Dead organisms. • Sand and silt. • Ocean floor. Next slide.

  11. Geographical Locations: Marine Benthic Zones are located throughout the world’s oceans beneath the Pelagic Zones. Next slide.

  12. Organisms living in the Marine Benthic Zone are called “Benthos” • Plants • Sea grass • Animals • Fishes • bacteria • Fungi • Sponges • Sea anemones • Worms • Sea Stars Next slide.
