This study focuses on the critical issue of voids in concrete and their implications, inspired by the historical failure of the Saint Francis Dam. Conducted by Josie Rushton, Carl DeWitt, Hunter McLaughlin, and Brad Girod as part of ENGR45 in Fall 2011, the research simulated the problem using 0.52 mm diameter plastic spheres to assess how these voids affect concrete integrity. The findings highlight the importance of mixing samples and testing results to prevent structural failures in future constructions.
