  1. “The Revolting Blob” Trey Carrier Stephen Phillips Aaron Messer Jordan Davis

  2. Purpose • Turn on a lamp shaped like a teddy bear

  3. Overview • Ball is launched using elastic energy down a tube

  4. Overview • Ball proceeds down a ramp with a slight incline towards a pivot

  5. Overview • Ball hits a pivot which in turn hits another ball

  6. Overview • Second ball rolls down another ramp towards a funnel

  7. Overview • Ball goes through the funnel and down another ramp • Flicks a switch

  8. Overview • The lamp turns on as a result of hitting the switch

  9. Energy Conversions & Equations 1 2 3 • 0-1: Elastic KE • 1-2: KE + PE + Eloss  KE • 2-3: KE + PE + Eloss  KE • 3-4: KE + Eloss KE • 4-5: KE + PE + Eloss KE • 5-6: KE + PE + Eloss  KE • 6-7: KE + PE + Eloss  KE 4 5 6 7

  10. Conclusions • Elastic energy makes a good initial source of energy • Funnels are useful to create straight drops • The bottom of a chopped off funnel covered with duct tape makes a great golf ball holder • Device is pretty inefficient; the velocity of the ball hitting the switch is much smaller than the velocity of the ball being launched due to collisions and friction
