  1. Protectors For LED Drivers-A Must Have For Street Lights And Pole Lights A lot of 240w/300w LED pole lights are damaging, despite using great drivers. Before we jump into the nitty-gritty of investigation of why it is happening exactly, let’s understand what exactly the LED drivers are. LED drivers are indeed a confusing term in the world of LED lighting. So what exactly is an LED driver? An LED driver is an electrical device used as a complementary device to regulate power to an LED device. It is a crucial part of any LED lighting circuit. An LED system will fail without any of these drivers. One can consider LED drivers a self- sustained power-supply, which varies its output to match it with the variations in characteristics of the LEDs. There are so many divers for every requirement out there. There are a number of variations, which is, even more, intimidating at times.

  2. For high power applications, like the one in the LED Street Lights, we use AC LED drivers. With great power consumption, comes great risks. AC LED drivers accompanying the LED pole lights failed desperately. The primary reason for the failure upon testing was found out to be unstable voltage input. An unstable voltage supply, along without an external protection device, failed the LED driver. So when the input power requirement gets higher, consider buying protection devices like Surge protection devices. There have been instances when suppliers supplied protection devices along with the LED drivers. Surge protection device is a low-cost single-phase protection device designed for outdoor lighting. The device is required in parallel to the circuit. The only precaution to keep in mind is to install the protector inside the luminaires. Even protectors need some protection. As the power goes up, more than one driver could be used. For example, in the case of 480W pole light, one might use two 240 Watts drivers along with one piece of surge protectors. So in the end, it can be established that without a surge protector, pole lights might fail, having such huge need, and having such a low price, we recommend everybody to install a surge protector in their pole lights.
