HECRTF Goals • Make high-end computing easier and more productive to use. • Foster the development and innovation of new generations of high-end computing systems and technologies. • Effectively manage and coordinate Federal high-end computing. • Make high-end computing readily available to Federally Agencies that need it to fulfill their missions.

System Performance Assessment Pilot • Purpose: • Better match codes to existing architectures and machines • Inform procurements • Validate code performance and system performance • Guide design of future architectures and systems • Status: • Lead: Bryan Biegle of NASA/Ames • Initial workshop • Substantial interest

  7. Transition of Solving Important Problems Note: Improvements due to both hardware and algorithms. (1) Yesterday’s unsolvable problem Leading Capability Systems Computational Requirements (Factors of 10) Capacity Systems (2) Will be today’s problem solvable only on the world’s largest available systems (3) Will be tomorrow’s problem easily solvable on a “regular” HPC system (4) … and someday solved on your laptop 5 to 10 years Time (years) High-end computing enables US to solve “unsolvable” problems first.
