2. Not much is known about Belgium. Most people know it for it’s chocolate and beer, but what about the forced labor, torture, and slaughter of millions? We chose this topic because the genocide that took place in the Belgian Congo is too commonly overlooked or seldom known by many people. What took place there deserves to be better known.

3. Failure as a King • Leopold II failed as a king. He abused his power by lying to the world and taking advantage of a people who were incapable of fighting back or exposing what was being done to them. He ripped apart an entire native civilization, reaping them of their resources and killing them off almost entirely in the process. • Some might argue that he was successful in other aspects of his kingship but his exploitation of the Congo shows what a poor king he truly was
