  1. Access to land, livestock production and ecosystem conservation in the Brazilian Campos Biome: the natural grasslands dilema - A view from Embrapa- Southern Brazil Animal Production Center

  2. Research results from Embrapa CPPSUL (1977- 1981) When increased grazing intensity: - > presence of weeds and low quality grasses - Opened grassland community (> % bareground) - Showed up new dominant weed (Annoni grass, Eragrostis plana)

  3. New approach: Research team on sustainable agricultural systems and rural development in Southern Brazilian Campos Biome (PROCAMPO - SUL) Team: - Seven scientists - One technician - 15 undergraduate students from Agronomy, Veterinarian and Biology Courses and 02 postgraduate (Doctorate) students

  4. Research topics/themes: • - Sustainable use and management of natural and genetic resources: • - Promote sustainable agricultural systems and ecology • - Adding value on agricultural products • - Rural development • - Indicators and monitoring of sustainability

  5. We believe that the agricultural systems in Campos biome should focus on other aspects rather than land productivity, for example: biological diversity, soil and grassland degradation processes, water resources conservation, environmental pollution and food contamination. This will address alternative production and rural development models and new technologies for the Brazilian Campos Biome.
