  1. Fluctuations in natural magnetic field affecting human performance A study by Tarmo Koppel PRESENTATION at Tallinn University of Technology on 02.04.2012

  2. Lets position this topic

  3. The position of this study

  4. The main research question: • How do fluctuations in natural magnetic field affect people? • Set of secondary questions: • how many people are affected by natural EMF fluctuations • what symptoms do they endure • what makes thee people different from the rest

  5. Data was collected by 1) questionnaire and 2) records from magnetic observatories

  6. There are different types of fluctuations in magnetic field

  7. METHOD • period of 7 months • magnetic field of Earth was monitored daily • a questionnaire was distributed (included 44 symptoms)

  8. RESULTS • A total of 2037 responses were collected • Six events of high fluctuations in magnetic field were selected to study on

  9. RESULTS DETAILED RESULTS NOT PUBLISHED YET

  10. Most reported symptoms • fatigue • drowsiness during the day • dizziness • waking up still tired • sleep disturbances DETAILED RESULTS NOT PUBLISHED YET

  11. An unexpected finding! older people report less symptoms than younger in the aspect of EMFs - what makes younger people to report more symptoms DETAILED RESULTS NOT PUBLISHED YET

  12. A more detailed view on age group segmented symptoms DETAILED RESULTS NOT PUBLISHED YET

  13. CONCLUSIONS • why am I having those symptoms, cause I never had before ? • The mechanics of exposure to electromagnetic fields • they accumulate

  14. 2012-2013 we are in a unique situation • We have had never so much EMFs

  15. Now, natural EMFs have more effect on person

  16. This studyformed a new hypothesis • younger people reported more symptoms because they use more elctronic devices • therefore are more exposed to the EMFs • therefore a higher sensitivity to EMFs has developed

  17. Strengths of this study • a large volume of respondents (2000+) • an ample time series (7months) • studied not only 1 but 6 events • results give an estimate of people being affected by the phenomenon • indicates gender differences • raises a new interesting hypothesis

  18. Weaknesses of this study • an open-access survey (not a cross-section of the society) • self-reported data (it’s a questionnaire, not a medical examination) • lacks of details profiling affected people(does not provide detailed info on persons being affected)
