Purpose of presentation
  • Explain the procedure involved in Angola LFS to collected data on:
  • Employment in the informal sector
  • Informal employment.
  • Measurement of women´s work
what is the angola lfs
What is the Angola LFS
  • It is a household survey.
  • It is the first LFS at national level in Angola
  • It is a survey included in the Program activities of Angolan Government for the year 2009

Obtain official statistical data every 6 months for policy decision-making;

Monitoring of the Millenuim Development Goals

Strategic programming key information includes:

  • Labour Force characteristics in Angola;
  • Socio-demographics characteristics;
  • Households Socio-economics conditions

Geographic coverage: National level

Sampling:

  • Representative at the, provincial urban and rural areas
  • Sample size:8.240 households
  • Provisional timeframe for data collection: August – September 2009

      • Expert: Martha Mayer
      • UNSD Project: Improving Gender Statistics on Employment
    • Objective: To provide direct techinical assistance to the NSO of Angola (INE)
      • Statistics on women´s and men´s participation in the informal sector and informal employment;
      • Revision of the questionnaire and draft of additional questions;
      • Revision of the tables for dessimination: gender and informal; employment and informal sector issues.

  • Informal sector: units engaged in production of goods or services.
  • Primary objectives: generation of employment and incomes for persons concerned.
  • Characteristics: low level of organisation; little or no division between labour and capital as factors of productions; small scale; labour relations (if any) based on casual employment, kinship, or personal/social relations rather than contracts with formal guarantees
