Hage Elementary School Orientation Information

  1. Welcome to the 2017-18 Hage Orientation • Please find a seat and we will begin the Orientation at 10:00 • Restrooms are located outside the doors directly across from the Auditorium • If you have not had a chance to join our wonderful PTA, please see the PTA table outside of the Auditorium. Your participation in PTA is a great way to stay involved and help our school.

  3. We are the home of the Panthers! • Principal: James Lee • Born and raised in San Diego and attended Mira Mesa Schools • Last school year as Hage Vice Principal • My wife is a teacher and all my children are students in SDUSD

  4. The “Hage Way”/Hage Learners C.A.R.E • “The Hage Way” focuses on the Hage character traits, reinforces positive student and staff actions, all of which we’ve aligned with those of Wangenheim Middle. • “Hage Learners C.A.R.E.” The C stands for Cooperate In A Group, the A stands for Asking Questions, the R stands for Read Every Day and E stands for Enjoy Learning. • Friday Morning Openings: allows us a time to have a direct connection to all students and focus on our character traits.

  5. Bell Times and Daily Schedule • Bell times Mon, Tu, Wed, Fri: 7:35-2:05. Modified Day Thu: 7:35-12:00. • Campus does not officially open until 7:15 when supervision is available • Snack/Recess: First (9:50-10:05); Second (10:10-10:25) Grade levels 2nd and 3rd 1st and 4th Lunch Time 11:00-11:20 11:25-11:45 Lunch Recess 11:25-11:40 11:50-12:05 Thursday 1/2 day 10:50-11:10 4th11:15-11:35 1st11:40-12:00 11:40-12:00 5th 11:50-12:10 12:15-12:30

  6. Drop-off and Pick-up info • Traffic for the first day is always the busiest. Please arrive early, walk to school if you can, and park outside of the school on the street. • Parking is available in the back parking lot. Front parking is reserved for staff • We have 2 drive up and drop-off/pick-up areas in the back parking lot • We also have access out to Westview Parkway via the back lot • We are a secure campus. At 7:40, gates are locked starting with Westview Parkway. • Gates to walk onto campus open 5 minutes before dismissal. Please wait for your student(s) at designated areas.

  7. Morning drop-off • All students are allowed onto campus at 7:15 when supervision is on duty • Please have Students that arrive early go to the Lunch court. • At 7:25 grades 3-5 will be escorted by staff to the blacktop and will line up by grade level and class. • 1stand 2ndgrade will meet their teacher at their assigned table in the Lunch court • TK/K need to be dropped off and picked at the classroom.

  8. Digital Citizenship and “1 to 1” • We are a proud Digital Citizenship school. All Staff have been provided training to teach students about the importance of digital citizenship. • In the MM cluster all schools have implemented “1 to 1” devices. At Hage, this means students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to checkout a student device to bring to and from school. • All classrooms are equipped with i21 technology: Interactive Promethean boards, student devices (TK-2: Android tablets and 3-5: Netbooks/Chromebooks), surround sound, microphones, high speed Wi-Fi.

  9. PE/Fitness • Mr. Kaneko • What is Physical Education at Hage Elementary? • 1. Standards Based Approach • 2. Safety precautions are considered for each lesson plan • 3. We are in compliance of the Education Code Section 51210 which requires 200 minutes of Physical Education every 10 school days for students in grades 1-6. • 4. These minutes are met through P.E. classes, Fitness time, and Friday Fitness. • 5. Integrating the Hage Way concepts in all that we do during P.E. Mr. Warkentien

PE/Fitness • What is our Goal? • The goal of Physical Education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. • Hage Elementary’s Swim Program • Hage Elementary has a very rare Swim Program that’s existed for the last 15 years. Students in grades 3-5 will receive 5 weeks of FREE swim lessons twice a week for 35 minutes. Our goal is to have every 5thgrade student leave our school as a proficient swimmer. This kind of proficiency can lead to many opportunities and open many doors in their future.

  11. PE/Fitness • What can you do to help us reach our goals? • 1. Please have your child wear appropriate attire to participate in P.E. every day of the week • 2. Please make sure they get enough rest for their school day. • 3. Please make sure they eat a well-balanced meat throughout each day. • How you can reach the P.E.   12. MusicProgram • All 5thgrade students will have the opportunity to experience a new course named “Intro to Music” • The course will be taught by Susana Obando, an instructor that taught at the San Diego Youth Symphony • All students will learn to play the violin

  13. Art Corps • A program that is funded by PTA • All students will attend Art Corps with their class • Parent volunteers are trained to teach Art Corps lessons to the students • Student Art Exhibition (Art Show) in the Spring Semester • Art Corps is located in Rm. 26

  14. Class Placements • Final class placements will be accessible on the windows near the front office starting on Friday 25that 3:30 PM and will be available throughout the weekend (26th-27th) 9:00 AM- 7:00 PM. • Lists will also be available on the first day of school (Aug. 28th). • You will be receiving important information in the First Week Packet. Please ask your student(s) for them after the first day of school.
