  2. Uses • To loosen thick secretions that would otherwise remain in the lung • Primarily indicated for Cystic Fibrosis patients • Helps patient become more independent with treatments • Minimizes lung infections

  3. Alternative treatments • CPT- chest physical therapy involves percussion over areas of the lung to loosen secretions • This is not as effective as HFCWO • The Flutter- this uses positive expiratory pressure (PEP). • Smaller and does not cost as much as HFCWO devices • Is equally as effective as HFCWO

  4. Modes of use • Works by high frequency oscillation this shears the thick mucous and helps move it to the upper airway where it can suctioned or coughed up by the patient. CPT works by the same concept, but less effective

  5. Cocnclusion • There are many therapies for CF • HFCWO is an effective therapy when combined with other proven treatments • A disease that is as dynamic as CF needs to have vast number of treatments that work best with the selected patient
