  7. We Worship the Sovereign God of the Universe King of Kings, Lord of Lords without equal, without limitation in any way, the only absolutely free being in the universe

  8. Three questions the sovereignty of God raises:

  9. If God is good and God is sovereign why do we see so much evil, why do we see so much suffering?

  10. If God is sovereign and over all things do we really have free will or are we just puppets?

  11. How do you know that your God is the God?

  12. “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? • Then He is not omnipotent. • Is He able, but not willing? • Then He is malevolent. • Is He both able and willing? • Then whence cometh evil? • Is He neither able nor willing? • Then why call Him God? • Epicurus

  13. Romans 9:14-18 (NIV) • 14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15 For He says to Moses, • “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, • and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

  14. 16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display My power in you and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”

  15. 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden.

  16. Genesis 2:15-16 (NIV) • 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;

  17. 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

  18. Romans 11:33-36 (NIV) • 33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! • How unsearchable His judgments, • and His paths beyond tracing out!

  19. 34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord? • Or who has been His counselor?” • 35 “Who has ever given to God, • that God should repay them?”

  20. 36 For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. • To Him be the glory forever! Amen.

  21. 'Chosen But Free' A Balanced View Of Divine Election by Norman Geisler

  22. How do we respond to God’s sovereignty?

  23. Believe

  24. Believe that all that comes into your life is either allowed or decreed by a good God who will use it for your benefit

  25. Romans 8:28(NIV) • 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

  26. Absolutely refuse to worry

  27. Believe • Behold

  28. Behold in awe the mystery and majesty of His kind, compassionate, just, and sovereign rule of all that is or will ever be

  29. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV) • “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, • neither are your ways my ways,” • declares the Lord. • 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways • and my thoughts than your thoughts.

  30. Worship God for who He is, not merely for what He has done

  31. Believe • Behold • Bow

  32. Bow before Him

  33. Philippians 2:9-11(NIV) • Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place • and gave Him the name that is above every name,

  34. 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, • in heaven and on earth and under the earth, • 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, • to the glory of God the Father.

  35. Absolute surrender of all you are and all you have

  36. Get into his word • Romans 10:17 (NIV) • 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

  37. Galatians 4:4 (NIV) • 4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

  38. 2 Peter 3:9 • New International Version (NIV) • 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
