  2. 2 Digit Division • Dividend- a quantity to be divided 578/5 578 is the dividend • Divisor- The quantity by which another quantity is to be divided. 578/5 5 is the divisor • Quotient- The result of the division of one quantity by another. 578/5= 115r6 115 is the quotient

  3. This week’s Standard: Our goal or standard for this week is to be able to find answers to division problems with up to 4 digit dividends and 2 digit divisors using different strategies. We should be able to illustrate and explain them by using equations (standard algorithm) and/or arrays.

  12. Today’s Task: Today you will learn how to use basic math facts to divide by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000. Turn to page 110 in your math books. Look at example A and B. What is happening? Complete problems 1-6. Remember to ask yourself which basic dividion fact should you use and did you write the correct number of zeros.

  13. Math Talk: • What pattern do you notice in the quotients when you divide multiples of 10 by 10? • Explain how to find the number of zeros in the quotient when you divide with multiples of 10. Copy the answer in your math notebook.

  14. Homework Complete problems 7-21 on page 111 in your Math textbook.

  15. Essential Question: How do we divide by a two digit divisor?

  16. Review From the examples on the board, where would we write the firs digit of the quotient? Why?

  17. Today’s Task: Today you will learn how to use algorithm to divide by two-digit divisors. Follow along as I demonstrate on the board. Copy the example in your notebook. Complete problems 1-6 on page 113. Remember to ask yourself where do I write the first digit in the quotient.

  18. Math Talk: • What are some ways you can decide where to place the first digit of the quotient? • Explain the steps for solving a two digit division problem. Copy the answer in your math notebook.
