  1. Year 10 Information Evening

Aims • To give students and parents: • an overview of KS4 (years 10 and 11), the nature of the student experience and key dates • and an understanding of: • the range and frequency of controlled conditions assessments (coursework requirements) • how we prepare students for post 16 education and for the world of work • how attainment at KS4 connects to university and employment applications.

  3. KS4: a crucial stage in your education • A time to: • Acquire certificated academic attainment (GCSEs) qualifications which will last you a life time. • Experience the realities of the world of work. • Reflect on your future career. • Develop study, organisational and transferable skills. • Pursue personal interests.

  4. Study Skills 6 hours homework a week (7 in Year 11) Be organised (use your planner) Don’t leave revision to the last minute. Make sure that you know what you have to do and understand the assessment criteria for each task. Be prepared to do some background reading. Build in breaks. Be proactive in seeking help. Year 10 revision skills day (March)

  6. Coursework (Controlled Assessments) • Most GCSEs have an element of coursework which counts towards the final grade. • It is important that deadlines are met • Absence should be kept to a minimum

  7. Curriculum pages • Access via the website on • www.rugbyhighschool.co.uk • then departmental areas • Gives information on key assessments and extension activities that parents can undertake to support learning.

  8. PSHE • Themed days not single lessons • 6 in Year 10, 3 in Year 11 • Year 11 focused on study beyond GCSEs, careers and WEX

Progress Checks • Target grades predicted from YELLIS test • Interim targets worked out for the end of Year 10 with sublevels added • 6 progress checks, 1 every half term to track progress • Colour coded to highlight whether the student is on target in each subject or not • 1st progress check 21st October
