Major Characters • Romeo • Son of the Montagues and in love with Juliet • Benvolio • Nephew of Montague and friend of Romeo • Mercutio • Friend of Romeo that likes to tease him • Juliet • Daughter of Capulet and in love with Romeo • Nurse • Like another mother to Juliet and devlivers messages • Friar • Preacher who marries Romeo and Juliet • Peter • The Nurse’s assistant

  3. Plot • Scene I • Setting: Near Capulet’s Orchard • After the party, Romeo sneaks away to the Capulets orchard hoping to see Juliet. Benvolio and Mercutio look for him but quit because they believed he did not want to be found. • Scene II • Setting: Capulet’s Orchard • Romeo and Juliet meet by her balcony and they both agree to get married the next day. • Scene III • Setting: Friar Lawrence’s Cell • Romeo goes to Friar’s cell and tells him of his love for Juliet. Friar then agrees to marry the two of them later that day.

  4. Plot Continued • Scene IV • Setting: A Street • Benvolio and Mercutio find Romeo . Then the Nurse and Peter enter and Mecutio teases her. When Mercutio and Benvolio leave she asks when and where Juliet should meet him for the wedding. • Scene V • Setting: Capulet’s Orchard • The Nurse returns to the house of Capulet and Juliet begs her to tell her the news from Romeo. Finally, the Nurse tells her that they are to meet at Friar Lawrence’s cell to be wed. • Scene VI • Setting: Friar Lawrence’s Cell • The Friar marries Romeo and Juliet in hope that their marriage will end the feud between the two famalies.
