  2. Who knows what this sound is?

  3. Communication with an airplane

  4. Kevin Chapman • Hello my name is Kevin Chapman I am a pilot. I have been flying smaller airplanes for a few years now and am working my way up to flying for an airline company.

  5. How runways get their numbers Airport runways are laid out according to a compass north is 360 south is 180 east 90 and west is 270 and so on, they drop the last zero to make it a little easier. So runways will have a number that corresponds to your heading.

  6. Where is the wind coming from? So we find out where the wind is coming from in a couple ways the windsock at the airport is a real accurate way of seeing the direction of the wind.

  7. The Traffic Pattern

  8. On final to land use your judgment to gauge your next turn so that you will straighten out on the final leg in line with the runway.

  9. Now You Know! • So next time you are driving by an airport and you see a plane flying you can quickly figure out what leg of the traffic pattern the pilot is flying and even say it by name. If you really want to impress those in the car you can tell them when the plane will turn, and then get a kick out of their ahh’s when they see you were right.

  10. Thank You
