  1. Science of the Shot By Brendan Coleman and Colin Cosper.

  2. Statement of the Problem • The problem for the experiment is which shot was more accurate: overhand, sidearm or underhand.

  3. Research • What type of shot is more effective. • - • What type of pocket the lacrosse stick has. • - • What type of lacrosse stick. • -

  4. Variables • Independent Variable: Type of shot • Dependent Variable: How many times a person can hit the lower left corner. • Constant : A target in the lower left corner, type of pocket, type of ground, type of stick, ten shots per type of shot. • Control group: The control group is the overhand shot because it is the most common shot in lacrosse.

  5. Project Overview • To test the project we had four people shoot ten shots overhand, underhand and sidearm, and then repeat it three times.

  6. Hypothesis • If a person will hit the target ( a lacrosse goal) more often overhand, than sidearm or underhand because it is easier to shoot accurately overhand than underhand or sidearm.

  7. Materials • 1. A lacrosse goal. • 2. A lacrosse stick. • 3. A pillow (12 by 12 inches). • 4. Four lacrosse players. • 5. 10 Lacrosse balls. • 6 A rope.

  8. Procedures • 1. Get four lacrosse players of the same abilities. • 2. Use pillows to make a target at the lower left corner. • 3. Measure ten meters away from the goal and mark the spot with a rope. • 4. All the players will shoot overhand 10 times. • 5. All players will shoot sidearm 10 times. • 6. All players will shoot underhand 10 times. • 7. Record how many people the target. • 8. Repeat the steps 4-7 three times for each participate. • 9. Make graphs of how many times a person hits the target in the lower left corner.

  11. Conclusion • The hypothesis for this experiment was correct. The overhand shot was most accurate. This is shown by the graphs. Tests were taken to show the most accurate shot by having each person taking thirty shots overhand sidearm and underhand. After these tests were taken the overhand shot was obviously more accurate and the underhand shot and sidearm shot were less accurate.

  12. Possible Experimental Errors • The error could have been if the target was in the wrong corner. • The pillow could have fallen down.

  13. Applications and Recommendations • The recommendations for this experiment is to test other corners and to use grass as the ground. Also use the same stick in the experiment.
