  1. Didi hits back, says Modi, Shah India’s biggest extortionists West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vitriolic attack launching a scathing counterattack calling “him and Home Minister Amit Shah the biggest tolabaj (extortionist) and syndicate” operators of the country. Mamata, who led a massive march against rising fuel and cooking gas prices in North Bengal city of Siliguri, said, “Here the PM is calling TMC a syndicate and our men tolabaj … but I must say there is no bigger tolabaj than him and Shah and no bigger syndicate run by him and the HM.” She said the PM is “peddling lies to mislead the voters,” adding “the lesser people cannot extort more than Rs 500 or Rs 1,000, but what could be the amount when the people up there do the same”. Saying that the Prime Minister was the biggest extortionist she said, “they are always accusing us of taking cut money … but how much did they get in the deals out of selling Rail, BSNL, Coal India, Air India and defence sector … who will answer that.” Attacking the Prime Minister for unleashing “Jumla politics” she said, “He is making tall promises but first of all ask him to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every bank account that he had promised before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections … ask him to turn UP, Bihar and MP into golden States before promising Sonar Bangla (golden Bengal).”

  2. Attacking the Prime Minister for alleging that women were not safe in Bengal, the Chief Minister said that “he should first look into what is happening in UP’s Hathras where girls are raped and murdered every day… Bengal is the safest State and Kolkata has been rated as the safest city even during the night time.” Slamming the Prime Minister for squeezing the people of India she said, “When the price of crude is low in the international market the Government is increasing petro price in India … they are giving free gas connection but selling the cooking gas for Rs 900 … I provide rice to people for Rs 2 and the same rice is cooked for Rs 900 … is it not a joke.” The Chief Minister is scheduled to return to Kolkata on Monday and take out a march on Tuesday. She is likely to file her nomination for Nandigram seat on May 10, sources said.
