  2. A branch campus to UNM Main Campus in Albuquerque since 1986 Serves as a community college to a large rural area (Valencia, N. Socorro, and W. Torrance Counties) Serves over 2,300 students per semester 22 Associate Degree or Certificate Programs 7 STEM-based Associate Degrees Evaluation Rationale

  3. Purpose • 56% self identify as Hispanic • 58% are first generation college students • 75% receive need-based grants and loans • Many of our students lack access to high speed internet and depend on such campus resources

  4. Stakeholders Headcount 2,338 Full-time 1,141 Part-time 1,197 Male 826 Female 1,512 Average Age 27 Dual Credit 280

  5. Key Questions • Awarded October 1, 2008, the goal of this grant is to increase the number of Hispanic and other low income students attaining degrees in fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Objective 1 : Increase the overall graduation rates for STEM degrees Objective 2: Increase overall success rates in STEM gateway courses Objective 3: Implement a model transfer program from UNM Valencia to UNM Main Campus

Evaluation Design Exposure Education Experience • Advising • Career Counseling • STEM Presentations • Specialized Tutoring • STEM Articulated Degrees • Highly qualified instructors for gateway courses • Field Trips • STEM Oriented Classes • Hands on experience with state of the art technology (2 MAC Labs 1 Film and 1 Game Design, organic motion technology, & Class Room Capture) • Assisted transition

Data Collection Methods • Transfer Advisor • Mentor and assist transitioning students • Maintain an office at UNM VC and UNM Main • Individualized appointments at Main campus • Bridge between campuses • Appointments • Individual or small group • Specifically tailored to each student • Provides exposure to Main Campus as the transition occurs (many students have never even visited Main!)
