2. Jason M. Powell earned his BS in Finance and his MBA in Finance/Management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. After working in private industry he went on to earn his M.D. degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. Jason didn’t easily fall into a career in medicine. He took a less than straight path but he has nevertheless made it to the highest level. Now he is a resident physician at one of the best hospitals in the world- Stanford. Jason M powell Chicago

3. Achieving Aims As an aspiring undergraduate college student, Jason initially enrolled in Southern Illinois University at Carbondale to pursue a career as an Air Force Fighter Pilot. He was a part of the Airforce ROTC and was dedicated to his studies. He worked hard to accomplish this goal, but when it was the time to commit to the career, he decided to weigh his options. He then decided to pursue a career in business. According to Dr. Powell, he wanted to have something to fall back on incase the military career worked out. He had several mentors in business, so he decided to major in Finance.

4. Professional Career Dr. Powell spent the years after graduate school working with his family in real estate. Not only did he manage, buy and sell properties in Chicago, he also owned properties in Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. With an immense number of connections in this business, Dr. Powell became successful quickly and branched out to own his own Real Estate Companies. At the young age of 27, Powell admits that he was earning “a lot” of money. However, he attributes his success to positive mentors. Jason M Powell Real Estate Chicago

5. Life Changing Event Dr. Powell’s life was running smooth until August 8, 2009 when he fractured his left femur in a wake boarding accident. Even though this was a tragic event, Dr. Powell managed to turn it into a “positive turning point” in his life. He re-established his relationship with God and dedicated himself to finding fulfillment in life.

6. At this point in time, Dr. Powell decided to live life in such a way that would make a positive impact in the lives of others. At the same time he wanted a career that would provide him with fulfillment. He had realized that “money could not buy happiness” and after some soul searching he decided that it was time to change careers. Although He would remain a part of his Family’s Real Estate business and would still own property, he said it was “time to branch out”. Following in the footsteps of his fraternal brother, he decided to pursue a career in medicine.

7. The Path to Serve Humanity Deciding to become a MD was not an easy task for Dr. Powell. He first had to complete pre-medical courses as a non-degree graduate. He did so at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he excelled academically. After being accepted to medical school he decided to attend Indiana University School of Medicine’s Gary campus. This campus focused on Urban medicine and serves one of the Nation’s most underprivileged communities. It was during this time in Gary Indiana that Dr. Powell solidified his passion to serve underprivileged and populations.

8. A Noble Cause This Chicago native is breaking all the stereotypes. As a Black Male, Medical Doctor, and MBA with a bright future, he has demonstrated that he is not afraid to take risks to follow his dreams. He has determined that his calling is to serve underserved communities and positively impact as many lives as possible.
