What is a credit or unit
WHAT IS A CREDIT OR UNIT? graduating.

  • A credit is the .5 or 1.0 given to you (placed on your transcript) when you successfully pass a class. No credit is given for a failing grade although it is calculated in with your overall GPA.

  • The terms credit and unit are one in the same. Sometimes we refer to credit and sometimes unit. The values are always .5 (1/2 unit) or 1.0 (whole unit). The .5 credit is ½ year or 9 weeks of the semester. The 1.0 credit is 18 weeks of the semester, which on block schedule counts as an entire year. Some classes are yearlong (e.g. math and language arts).

HOW DO I ACCUMULATE CREDITS? graduating.

  • Just as most people go to work on a daily basis and get paid, you get credits by

    PASSING CLASSES

  • Think of this as getting paid. Do your work in class get .5 or 1.0 credit.

  • No work to class standard = NO credit.

  • Every student takes 4 classes per semester. You may have paired classes which are .5 credits each, but, in the end, you can earn only 4 credits per semester.
