London 2012 Games – the SSAT rationale Student achievement can be supported by developing and promoting activities using the Games values and framework The SSAT has strength in networking with schools to share information and practice The London 2012 Games will be strengthened by developing relationships with partner organisations

London 2012 Games – the SSAT principles National - not narrowly London centred Cross-curricular - not narrowly focused on sport and languages Inclusive – not narrowly focused on the Olympics and mainstream schools Student centred – not teacher centred Achievement focused - activities support raising attainment and ECM outcomes

    4. LOCOG and the London 2012 Games The values: Olympic Values - Friendship, Respect and Excellence Paralympic Values - Determination, Courage, Inspiration and Equality. The programme elements: The Domestic Education Programme ‘Get Set’ Partner Programmes The Cultural Olympiad

    5. London 2012 Games - Domestic Education Programme (DEP) The programme will be the main driver of the 2012 Games curriculum initiatives. Key drivers: The Olympics and Paralympic values The role of student voice (and leadership) Aims: Involve all young people, Ensure a lasting educational legacy, Secure the voice of children and young people. Structure: ‘Get Set’ school-based, student focused activities, Partner Programmes – built on eight themes

The DEP Partner Programmes Providing schools and colleges with access to a number of 2012 learning programmes covering the following broad themes which are supported by partner organisations: Citizenship Enterprise PE and school sport (YST) Culture and creativity Sustainability and regeneration (EDF Energy) Practical learning (DCSF – SSAT???) Healthy and active lifestyles International 6

Developing a regional strategy Building practice in the regions: Having a London 2012 Games focus on agendas; Using the London 2012 Games headteacher representative to relay; Using established regional networks to communicate key messages and market SSAT programmes and activities; Developing current regional practices and strategies to include 2012 Games themes e.g. CIG, newsletter, website, school visits…

    13. 13 SSAT programme developments - current ‘London 2012 Games Student Network’ – developing regional and national networks of schools, based on the student voice model, to promote dialogue about London 2012 Games related activities. ‘London 2012 Games Specialism Curriculum Materials’ – creating materials with a London 2012 Games focus to support specialism delivery. 'Young Leaders' - a programme targeted at the development of leadership skills in Years 5 - 8. ‘Young Guides and Translators’ programme to use the bilingual skills of students to support the games. ‘Special Schools Video Conferencing Network’ - establishing a network and a set of activities to enable students to participate in London 2012 activities.

    14. 14 SSAT programme developments – current ‘Student Leadership for Sustainability’ networks – developing regional and national networks of schools, based on the student voice model, to promote dialogue about sustainable schools. ‘Sustainability Champions’ programme – developing in young people the knowledge and skills to lead on the sustainable schools agenda. ‘Olympics Links’ - establishing a programme to enable schools to link with other schools both in the UK and overseas, to focus on Olympics related activities.
