Welcome! • Thank you so much for being here! • While you are waiting, please help your child put their interactive notebook together. • Please write these subjects on the tabs: • Math • Reading • Word Study • Social Studies • Science and Health • Please place these in order in your child’s binder!

  3. About the Teacher • Graduated from Kennesaw State University this past December. • My husband and I have been married for six months. • I student taught in 3rd grade at East Side. • I worked as a long term sub in the 4th grade and 2nd grade.

  4. Schedule

  5. Morning Meeting • We will begin each day with a morning meeting to help with community building • Activity to get the wiggles out • Share • Greetings

  6. Reading Workshop • We will begin with a whole group mini-lesson • The students will have around 30 minutes of independent reading time. • This will allow me time to conference with individual students and pull strategy groups • The students will then have 10-15 minutes of partner reading time.

  7. Writing Workshop • We will begin with a whole group mini-lesson. • Students will write independently while I conference with individual students or meet with small groups. • The students will publish their writing pieces at the end of each unit.

  8. Math • Mini-lesson • Independent practice • Daily 5 Math Centers • This will allow me time to meet with small groups • Number Talks • New math

Word Study • Words Their Way • Word sorts • The power of these words is in the sorting! • Monday: Introduce the new sort • Tuesday-Thursday: Practice sorting through games, blind sorts, and hands-on practice • Friday: Assessment • Your child should practice sorting, spelling or writing their words a little each night. • There will be different spelling words for each student.

Social Studies, Science and Health • Emphasis on STEM in the classroom • Hands-on projects • Social Studies • State of Georgia, Native Americans, Government, and Historical Figures from Georgia • Science • Matter, Light, Heat, Motion, Energy, Astronomy, Life Cycles • Health • Little D and Royal Food Family, Safety

  11. Snack • Your child may bring a snack and water bottle to school each day. • We are eating snack later in the morning due to a very late lunch. • East Side is a big advocate of healthy snacks and so am I!

  12. Homework • Homework packets will be sent home each Mondyand returned each Friday. • Math review • Grammar • Math fact practice • Word study • Your students should read for at least 20 minutes a night. They will record this on the weekly newsletter. Please initial below their log each night.

  13. Slugger of the Week • Each Friday we will choose a new “Slugger of the Week” for the following week. This way each student will have his/her time to shine! • Monday- share the “Read All About Me” poster • Tuesday- share your favorite book • Wednesday- parents will write a love letter about their student and this will be read to the class • Thursday- someone special can come eat lunch with your student • Friday- each child will say something nice about the “Slugger of the Week”

  14. Behavior Expectations • I am a large believer in positive reinforcement • Our rules are to respect the classroom, teacher and each other. • Raffle Tickets

Help your Child at Home • Read every night and write at home. • Help with their addition/subtraction facts. • Check their take home binder each night and sign their nightly reading. • Instill responsibility • Have an appropriate bedtime • Read the weekly newsletter. • Keep in communication with me when needed!

Communication • The best way to reach me is email, hannah.lee@cobbk12.org. • Weekly newsletters come home each Monday. • Weekly progress reports will also be sent home on Mondays. • Notes from home can be sent through the take home binder. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure the notes get to me. I do not go through each take home binder. • If you are interested in meeting with me at school, please let me know! I would love to meet with you! • NewsFlash

  17. Parent Volunteers • Mystery Readers- A parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt, etc. may come and read to our class! • Field Trips • Science Lab- Come help our class and Mrs. Ranger in the Science Lab during specials. • Weekly Helper- Jobs would include: copying, cutting things out, laminating, hanging work in the hallway and hanging out with our class! • Sign up on our Shutterfly site

  18. Odds and Ends • If your child has a change in transportation, I need a note. We cannot take changes via email. • Class T-Shirts are to be worn on field trips or other big school events. • Lunch- We eat lunch from 12:26-12:56 and we love lunch visitors! Please meet us in the lunch room and sit at the guest table with your student. • Extracurricular Activities- I would like to make it to at least one extracurricular activity for each student. Please send me a schedule of your child’s events so I can attend.
